Quality, Not Quantity, is the Problem

At the recent AdAge Digital Marketing Conference, NBCU head honcho Jeff Zucker suggested that networks will have to reduce the number of hours of scripted content to cut costs and remain competitive. But less of the same isn’t going to move NBC out of its third place ranking among the broadcast networks.

Whether NBC produces its current 22 hours of original programming, or cuts back to 15, the focus needs to be on quality. If the next batch of offerings from NBC are as boring as Journeyman, or just a hot flaming mess, like Bionic Woman, NBC is not going to pull in viewers. Just something to think about, Mr. Zucker.

Jeff Zucker Can’t Handle the Truth

Network executives like Jeff Zucker, President and CEO of NBC Universal, may desperately want to put the digital genie back in the bottle. But it ain’t gonna happen.In a recent speech Zucker said, “Almost everywhere you turn, traditional business models in Hollywood are under pressure. And their replacements are not necessarily ready for prime time.”
