CBS will offer five new shows in the fall, none of which are reality series. Instead the net will stick to scripted series, debuting 3 new dramas and 2 new sitcoms.
The net, known for its crime procedurals, adds two new ones to the line-up. The Mentalist, about a TV psychic who becomes a criminal investigator, is from Bruno Heller who created HBO series Rome.
Eleventh Hour, yet another CBS entry from Jerry Bruckheimer, is a remake of a British series by the same name. The story follows a scientist who investigates criminal uses of science. Interestingly, CBS has pitted Eleventh Hour against ABC’s British remake crime procedural Life on Mars. Both shows will air Thursdays at 10pm on their respective networks.
Fridays at the net will still trend to the supernatural with new series The Ex List to follow Ghost Whisperer, replacing canceled series Moonlight. The Ex List is the story of a woman searching through her past relationships when a psychic tells her she’s already dated “the One.” The show is based on an Israeli series called Mythological X.
Worst Week and Project Gary are two new comedies. The latter stars Jay Mohr as a divorced father re-entering the dating world. Worst Week is another British import about newlyweds trying to cope with their in-laws.
Returning series include Ghost Whisperer, Two and a Half Men, Numb3rs, and any show with “CSI” in the title. The New Adventures of Old Christine and How I Met Your Mother have each been granted another season, despite having been considered candidates for cancellation. Criminal Minds, Without A Trace and NCIS also return, as do reality staples Survivor and The Amazing Race.
New mystery series Harper’s Island, about murders taking place among a group of friends at a destination wedding, debuts mid-season.
