In case you spent the last few days in a coma, apparently Britney Spears made a guest appearance on Monday’s episode of CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. The show scored record high ratings. Why is this news? Why is this international news?
When Britney’s head shaving was breaking news on CNN, I thought celebrity voyeurism had reached its heights (or perhaps depths is more appropriate.) But have we officially decided, as a planet, that any and everything Ms. Spears does is worth our attention? ‘Cause I didn’t get a vote.

Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Gilmore Girls) will star in a completely unnecessary remake of 1980 slasher flick Friday the 13th. Padalecki’s character will investigate the serial murders taking place at Crystal Lake. The tired title is brought to us by New Line Cinema, the same studio that brought us 2003’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Cheesy to the last, the film will be released February 2009 – on Friday the 13th.

The television industry is experimenting with the mix of variables considered in analyzing a show’s performance. Recent changes have the inclusion of time-shifted viewing and online viewing as additional metrics. But networks may be overlooking a valuable measurement of a show’s viewership: consistency.
